The sale at Montera Court was unusually close to home. As it turned out, my parents owned the home when I was around 2 years old and my earliest memory was in the backyard of this house. Even more coincidental was that good friends of mine from High School purchased the home back in 2009 as a foreclosure.

When we first visited the home, it was a mishmash of upgrades and future planned projects not yet complete. We knew that the bones were good but it needed to be elevated and polished. Our team came up with a comprehensive plan for preparation, which included interior and exterior work. As the home had wonderful mid-century bones, we wanted to really make those features shine.

We chose a rather bold color palette which included a deep charcoal exterior color, black trim, and bright red door. By the time the work was finished, the home was completely unrecognizable compared to its prior state.

The transformation blew away the owners and the neighbors; however, they also were nervous because it was quite a departure from the prior look. One of the neighbors said "That color might be something you see on Instagram but it's not appropriate for El Sobrante". We acknowledged their concern and encouraged them to trust us on this one.

We listed the property, and from the first day, the phone was ringing off the hook. I even got a call from a buyer currently living in Hawaii. After only 1 open house we received 7 offers, all of which were over asking and two were above the highest recent comparable sale.
